The initial plan was to get the Blazer running to the point we could drive it around until we had time to do a frame off restoration.
This involved getting the rear window reinstalled, look at the transmission and figure out why most of the dashboard and lights aren’t working.
Initially Tor didn’t think too much about the small brake pedal or the strange plate bolted on the floor between the passenger and driver foot wells. But after some discussion it occurred to him that this used to be a manual transmission. Then looking into the transmission it is clear that it will need to be removed, cleaned up and reinstalled. It seems like it’s not aligned properly and it will be easier to do during the process of the complete restoration.
OK fine, but let’s at least get the dashboard working. Well, not so fast. Turns out this K5 used to have no gauges, but someone tried to plug a gauge dashboard into the harness of a basic dashboard. Yeah, no, the pinouts are different, so the harness needs to change to work with the gauge dashboard.
So after many simple investigations that opened a can of worms, we’re going to button this up until we have time to fully restore.
