For fun, we entered the GTO into a car show run by the local chapter of GTOAA. Northwest GTO Legends hosted the 2021 GTOAA Nationals Reunion Convention in Bellevue on July 16-18. Just coming out of Covid shutdowns, it was reportedly smaller than previous years.
We entered the car into the Popular Vote contest for 64/65 GTO Stock Hardtop/Coupe. Given the small size of this year’s show, we were in a category of just 2 cars!
It was a great way to meet other local owners and learn more about local experts and vendors.
The lower parking lot had the Concours cars, where the judging is by points and not just the popular vote. Not for this GTO, but we could consider the Concours category for the Iris Mist rebuild. Although we’re looking to enjoy driving the car, not worry about the details needed for points… For example, we want disc brakes instead of the original drum brakes, because stopping seems important.
However, given the rarity of the Iris Mist color, it’ll be fun to take to shows just for looks. Maybe we should just keep with the Popular Vote category!
Beautiful restorations and originals. Surprised how many Maple Valley and Renton cars we saw… and yet we never see them driving around. I guess we don’t take the right roads!
Btw, we took first prize in our category 🙂
